A Few Words From Our Founder
I'm told it's time to do an "About Me".
And it would seem, "the beginning" is always the most appropriate place to start.
40 years ago, in October of 1985, I purchased The Village Studio, from John Hill. This makes me Calgary's longest serving retail portrait photography studio. It's an odd accomplishment, however, I accept it.
I accept it, because I realize, it could only occur with the support of the communities which I have been a part of for the last 4 decades.
The client whose husband passed 15 years earlier, and we were able to provide a photograph of him, for a nephew's wedding.
A last family group session, after a cancer diagnosis (which I have done so often).
The birth's, communions, graduations, weddings. Too many to count or even remember.
And so, when offered the opportunity to re-locate the studio to the new professional build in the Oakridge Co-op Shopping Center, I signed the lease. 10 more years- 6 are left.
I did this for many reasons. It's truly something to be a fixture in a community. Many are the clients who expressed relief when they found me in the new building. I bring a very unique product to the city, The formal Studio Portrait Photograph.
However, I find now, my greatest claim to fame is providing Calgary's most civilized experience for infant, child and special needs passport photos. It's just simply better here, ask any Mom.

How long does a session take?
It depends on the type of session, but we always aim to keep things efficient while still giving you enough time to get comfortable.
Can I wear glasses, makeup, or jewelry?
Glasses can sometimes create glare, and accessories should stay minimal. Light makeup is fine as long as it still looks like you.
Can you help us pose?
Yes. We guide you through posing and make small adjustments so the final images feel natural and flattering.
What background and expression are allowed?
Passport photos need a plain background and a neutral expression. For family sessions, we help direct the mood so it suits the image you want.
Can we include grandparents or the whole family?
Absolutely. We can photograph small groups, extended families, and multi-generation portraits as part of the same session.
Do you make sure the photo meets Canadian passport rules?
Yes. We check the details carefully so the photo is prepared correctly and is much less likely to be rejected.
How many edited photos will we receive, and when?
That depends on the session, but we will always explain what is included and give you a clear timeline for delivery.
Do you provide printed and digital passport photos?
Yes. We can provide the format you need so you leave with everything ready for your application.
